Problems with Techoni
Posted on September 14, 2006
I have recently had some problems getting my new phone from Techoni, and I though I would let google-searchers know what is happening by putting it up here.
So, Today I talked to Minta at Techoni, and sent an email to info@techoni.com.au in the hope it would end up at someone in charge of returns.
To the returns manager,
I purchased an ETEN M500 via your website (www.techoni.com.au) a month ago (8th August 2006) and was incorrectly sent a chinese language phone instead of english. While I have since received the correct phone (on the 30th August), I have not received back the Windows Mobile 2005 upgrade CD I received with the original (chinese) phone which I returned with the phone, as advised to by your customer service staff.
I have since talked to your customer service staff on several ocassions to obtain this CD. In the first instance, I was advised that this was an oversight, and that the CD would be sent. More recently, they informed me that I would not be getting a Windows Mobile 2005 upgrade as the ETEN promotion has ended. This is not acceptable to me as the promotion was clearly still occuring when I purchased my device originally, *as I had received an upgrade CD at the time*. When I asked that the upgrade CD I returned be sent back, I was informed by your staff that the upgrade CD was chinese language also, but this is not the case. I can confirm this as I had originally made a copy of that CD (my main computer doesn’t have an optical drive), and looking at the contents I can clearly see that it is the english version. Unfortunately I need the authorisation codes that were on the packaging to use the contents of the CD.
Clearly there has been a misunderstanding here, and all I would like is to receive the original CD back, or if it has been misplaced, a new Windows Mobile 2005 upgrade CD for my ETEN M500. If this cannot be arranged, I would like to organise a full refund for my purchase as you haven’t supplied me with the goods as advertised on your website.
As an aside, I do acknowledge that your website did say “limited offer” for the Windows Mobile 2005 upgrade. Your website however, did not state any conditions or limitations, so when I purchased the item I had a reasonable expectation that I was purchasing a phone with the upgrade CD.
I have tried to resolve this issue with your staff over the phone, to no avail. If you cannot give me the upgrade CD or provide me with a full refund, I will have no choice but to file a complaint with the NSW Office of Fair Trading, with whom I have already discussed this case in detail.
Thank you for your time,
David Dean
Update: I have talked to one of your support staff, Minta, and she has indicated that she will give ETEN a call and try and get an upgrade CD, and call me within two days.
Perhaps I should have done a little more research beforehand. I’ll post an update if anything exciting happens.
UPDATE (18/9): Richard at Techoni called me to let me know that a they have sent an upgrade CD my way. It should arrive in a couple of days.
UPDATE (20/9): The CD arrived yesterday. Thank you Techoni.

I’m having the unpleasurable experience of dealing with Techoni myself at the moment. I also made the mistake of not doing enough research. I ordered 2 exim screen protectors and a silicon case for a Dopod 838 Pro on the 5th of December, consequently, Thursday the 14th I received the screen protectors, and today I received the case (the 19th). The screen protectors are for a JAMin and they claim that they are exactly the same (which stated on websites they are the same size screen) however there’s a 1-2mm gap on the top and left of the screen unprotected. Fits perfectly my round behind. Also the case that they sent was for a Dopod 900 and was clearly sent from Hong Kong. I have pictures if anyone would like proof. I called their service department and said that it was from Hong Jong and I had reason to believe that they had taken my money and consequently bid on a case from eBay and had the seller send it to my address! They said I don’t know what I’m talking about as everything they sell is Australian stock. What a load of… anyhoo…I express posted it back to their Sydney office after speaking with a representative and am not holding my breath to get a correct one back in the next month or so. Absolutely appalling customer service. Pathetic at best.
I had the misfortune to deaal with this bunch of shysters. They failed to deliver, had both the item and the payment and then lied and weaseled to get out of a refund. Took a lot of effort. Employee lisa lied continuously, another employee simply would not accept the obvious that it was THEIR FAULT and employed every evasion in the book. They finally coughed but with the utmost of reluctance.
A slimy lot, best avoided at all costs.
