Google Maps Australia almost works

So, it appears that Google Maps have finally allowed us to search for streets. Not sure when this happened, but yay! It appears you need to bung an ‘Australia’ on the end of most searches for it to work though, which explains why I haven’t noticed it working ’cause I didn’t ever do that - [...]

Speech recognition is accomplished by electrodes on the face that detect electromyography in the underlying muscles. Currently, the five vowel sounds in Japanese language (a, i, u, e, o) can already be recognized by this technique, and consonants are in the works.

VidTIMIT dataset freely available online

Conrad Sanderson has released the VidTIMIT audio-visual speech dataset so that it is freely available online.
The dataset is comprised of video and corresponding audio recordings of 43 people, reciting short sentences. It can be useful for research on topics such as automatic lip reading, multi-view face recognition, multi-modal speech recognition and person identification.

Matlab breaks OpenGL

So a whilish back I was complaining about OpenGL not working properly on my HP TC1100 Tablet, and I never ended up solving it. Turns out it was MATLAB causing the problem, and you need to disable the MATLAB Server service from running (Why the hell was it running by default anyway). Details here.

Google scholar bibtex export

Jamie points out that you can setup Google Scholar so that it allows you to export bibtex from the results pages. Just turn in on the “Scholar Preferences” page (look to the right of the search box).
